The Good

For being a newbie in the tax industry, Tax Group Center offers some unique tax relief services not common in this industry. The first is the Employer Tax Service (ETS) program. For employers who wish to help employees who are stressed by difficult tax problems, TGC offers a company discount. There is no cost to employers who wish to enroll in the ETS Program and their employees will receive 30% off tax service fees.

Additionally, they offer a unique service called the Freedom of Information Request (FIR). This is a service that allows customers to make IRS or state revenue inquiries through the TGC based on the Freedom of Information Act (FIA) without drawing too much unwanted attention on themselves. Customers are given the chance to feel they are doing something positive about a potentially tough situation without undue exposure to tax authorities.

Tax consultants are available to help determine the potential client’s financial situation and to determine qualification. Taxpayers with less than $5,000 in debt will not qualify for their programs, although we appreciate this company lowering the amount from the industry standard, which is held around $10,000.

When it comes time to pricing, clients will be assess a flat fee which will be outlined in the service agreement. As many companies in this industry claim, fees cannot be quoted until they have a clear idea and method of resolution. We recommend inquiring about any additional future fees, as some companies have a habit of charging several thousand more after a few months of working on the case.

TGC has a fully staffed team of CPA’s, Tax Attorney’s, Enrolled Agents and Certified Tax Consultants and practice around their 3 S System which includes Service, Solution and Success. Everything they do as a business is held to their 3 S System standard, including their 24/7 hours of operation.

This company has done quite well in offering educational materials and resources for consumers to fill up on such as articles (although they are outdated from 2013), tax forms, glossary, and an FAQ page with useful information.

Highlights to include when considering Tax Group Center:

  • Enrolled Agents, Tax Attorney’s, and CPA’s on staff
  • Many accreditations including NAEA, AICPA, NATP and ASTPS
  • Free Consultation
  • Refund Policy
  • $5,000 minimum
  • 24/7 hours of operation

The Bad

Our first concern with Tax Group Center lies within their C rating from the Better Business Bureau and lack of accreditation. It’s almost imperative for companies in this industry to maintain an A or better rating with minimal complaints because, often times, there is already a lack of trust due to the amount of money required upfront. When the rating is high and complaint volume is low, it helps ease the mind of the consumers backed in a financial corner.

The company staffs Tax Attorney’s and due to this, we would like to see them reach out to gain a membership with the American Bar Association. This would serve as another method to reduce stress from potential clients.

In addition, they have failed to keep up to date on their offering of educational tools and resources. They have a Twitter account; however, posts haven’t been updated since the beginning of 2014.

The Bottom Line

Tax Group Center provides customers with good variety of services and dedication to customers with their 3 S System. While they are not accredited with the BBB and have received an insignificant rating, their long list of accreditations leads us to recommend taking advantage of their free consultation. Keep in mind, however, they have a history of complaints and company name changes throughout time suggesting they have failed in alternate attempts of providing tax resolution services. Overall, we suggest taking a look at some of our top recommend tax companies to find out if they may be able to resolve your tax needs.

Pricing

The taxpayer’s profile must be complete so that Tax Group Center has a clear idea of how much work will be involved before a fee for service is quoted. The Service Agreement will have a flat fee – not hourly – based on TGC’s estimate of the workload involved to bring the case to resolution. It was the same for bookkeeping services and tax preparation – costs for both are dependent upon the complexity of individual cases. TGC will perform a Freedom of Information Request free of charge without obligation on the client’s part to use any of TGC’s other services.

Services

Tax Group Center large number of services to its customers which include:

BBB Rating

They have a C rating. The BBB notes that there are “no significant government actions” against the firm. The reasons cited for the rating are the relatively short time in business – just under three years as of this writing – and complaints against them. The company has failed to respond to one of the complaints.

This group of supposedly professionals have the rudest people dealing with the public. Once you pay the fees they ask for then they drag their feet and tell you they are awaiting documents that you would have submitted 2 or 3 times before. They then request more money to do what they have already been paid to do. I have already paid twice for the same job and then this rude woman is going to tell me I need to pay again as my case has been suspended for 2 months.

The Tax Group took me for approx $7000.00, they would never return my calls, never kept me posted on the progress of my case, at first they assured me my case would be resolved and they would be able to settle with IRS. Bottom line they are a bunch of scammers. LOOK at their contract. I should have reviewed them 1st. I still have my problems with IRS plus I’m out the money. How do they stay in business.

They totally scammed me and I’m looking for legal representation to pursue getting thousands of dollars they stole from me. Not only am I out of that money but not one red cent has been forgiven from tax debt. I’m even pursuing the, radio stations that advertise for this company. I feel sooooo taken..

i would never recommend the TAX GROUP CENTER for anyone i love. this process of representing the client to reduce their tax liability through a compromise with the IRS and State is a joke!!!
after they dragged their feet for the 1st few months and did nothing but let me call over and over, they then put me on the clock to resend paperwork that i had already sent. in addition, they asked for other papers, which included my current taxes which had to be finished. when i was a week late with sending in the packet of info, they told me i had to pay more money because the case had been closed. i refused to pay any additional money since i have received absolutely no service from them for the $1500 i had already sent. if i had time and money i would sue them for my money, but im burying my head and moving on instead. its a shame that people actually make a living ripping folks off.

This company is a scam. They get you to sign the contract and then come back and say you need to give them more money. If you don’t, they don’t do any work until you agree to give them more.

As far as being nice, they are hot-tempered and like to curse at their clients. It’s over a year, and I am still trying to get my money back from American Express!

Poll

  • When looking for a debt settlement company, which of these two aspects is most important to you?
  • Takes your existing debt and try to settle with your creditors for a lower amount. If you pay off the settled amount, your debt will be considered paid in full.
  • Negotiates with your creditors on your behalf.
  • Fee based on a percentage of your total starting debt or a percentage of the debt they save you.
  • Most settlement companies have you create a separate "escrow" account where you will make monthly contributions over a certain amount of time to contribute to your settlement. Once there is a substantial amount of funds to show your creditors, the settlement company will try to negotiate a lower amount of debt.
  • Combines all your debts and creditors into one monthly payment.
  • Allows you to pay one monthly payment to the consolidation company, instead of multiple payments to different creditors.
  • You no longer owe your original creditors; instead you pay one monthly payment to your consolidation company.
  • Consolidation companies can help negotiate lower interest rates on your debts and help lower your total debt payment in the long run. A lower interest rate will lower the amount you owe in the end.
  • Allows you to consolidate all your different debts into one personal loan that can be paid off over time.
  • Can offer borrowers a lower interest rate with a longer payback term (compared to high-interest credit cards or medical bills). This will lower the amount of money required to pay off the loan over time.
  • Personal loan debt consolidation can be an effective way to raise your credit score quickly (within 3-6 months).
  • Borrowers can receive funds from their loan within only a few days.
